Hi Everyone...please update your RSS feeds to my new blog. You can find it HERE

Happy Easter!

It's here!

It's here! It's here! UPS just delivered my first canvas gallery wrap and I'm jumping up and down in excitement! The doorbell literally just rang 10 minutes ago and I couldn't help but rip the box open and take a picture of the beautiful new addition to my home studio. Isn't it lovely?! :)

Thursday already?!

Where did the week go!? What a whirlwind!

  • In officially one week from today I will be in Austin, TX to shoot a fabulous wedding! I can't even begin to explain how excited I am!! I'm flying in early to shoot the rehearsal dinner and then the wedding is on Saturday. I just know I'm going to get some beautiful images and I can't wait to capture the day!

  • The big reveal is coming SOON!! (Like within days so keep checking back - you won't regret it) I can barely wait any longer!! :)

  • Today I attended a networking meeting where each person owns a business in a different industry. It was strange not being surrounded by my photographer friends, but great meeting new people and stepping out of my comfort zone!

Ok, back to working on the "secret project" so that I can launch it already!

Have a fantastic Thursday!

Morning Snow

This morning I couldn't help but smile when I peered outside and saw a fresh blanket of white powdery snow. It was so peaceful and serene and although I'm anxiously awaiting spring, its mornings like these that I love living in Minnesota.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So, is St. Patrick's Day going to become a national holiday?? Eric and I were talking about it over a "Big Ginger" at The Local this weekend and we both agreed that the day AFTER St. Patti's should really be the "holiday" so that people can have a day to recover from their crazy Irish antics. :)

Although this snowy Monday will most likely be pretty low-key for us, I really feel the need to celebrate the "McCauley" heritage. I think some green food coloring will do the trick.:)

Winter Family Photos

I just photographed a wonderful family of 10 today and we had so much fun! They braved this chilly March day and ventured outside for some photos before our ears went numb and warmed up at home to finish the shoot. :)

Over the past couple of weeks I have been setting various business goals for 2008 and really thinking about what I would like to accomplish. Well, today I officially started working on one huge goal that I have been dreaming about for a long time: Getting Published. I have been published many, many times in the past when working at my first job out of school at the Red Wing Republican Eagle, but I haven't been published as "Erika McCauley Photographers" yet. I just think that it would be such a cool thing and a major step in my career. So, it's time to get going on the submissions! I plan on submitting work to wedding magazines and also to nature and outdoor photography magazines as well. I have hundreds of photos from New Zealand that are screaming to be printed on shiny magazine pages! I really hope I can achieve this goal. You'll be the first to hear about it if I do! :)

Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite photos are and I'll try to get it in print! I'd love to hear your input! Thanks!

Exciting news on the way!

I am ecstatic because this week has been really productive so far and the new business ideas we have been working on are becoming a reality! Along with the extra-top-secret news (see the March 5th post), I will also soon be launching a new custom blog. So, this blog will be replaced with one that features things like big, beautiful photos; fun links to check out; and easier commenting for you to leave messages about what I post; etc. It's going to be huge and I can't wait to share it with you! I'm trying my best to be patient, but sometimes (Ok, really every time) when I have an idea, I want it done 2 days ago. :) The company I'm working with, Infinet Design, has been nothing short of superior and exceeds my expectations almost daily! Oh, I can't wait for you to see what's just around the corner! :)

Erin Kelly - 6 months

It seems like it was just yesterday that I was excitedly rushing to the hospital with my camera in hand ready to capture Erin's first hours here with us. I blinked and my baby niece can now sit up by herself and practically say "Aun-tie" (I could have sworn she said it today when I was taking her picture!):) She has so many new expressions and is growing up much too quickly just like her brother and sister. It's such a joy having these kids in my life and some of my favorite days are the ones I get to capture their little personalities.

It's so cute when Erin sucks her fingers she throws her arm over them to make sure they don't fall out:)

It's a Beautiful Day!

Eric and I just got back from U2-3D and it was amazing!!! If you have an IMAX near you, you have to check it out! I was amazed by the effects and the film definitely exceeded my expectations. The bonus was that we got to wear these awesome 3D glasses! Aren't they stylish!?:)

Will it never end??

On this sunny Friday afternoon I'm feeling a mixture of relief, tiredness and I can't seem to get out of this "funk" I've been in. I am sometimes an emotional person whose moods are determined by simple things like the weather, for example. Why can't I be overjoyed when it's -6 degrees outside in March!? I think I need to watch the video from yesterday's post again...

I'm tired of winter (like the rest of the people in MN) and feeling uninspired by the blue, harsh light and lack of colors outside. Will spring ever arrive??

Yesterday's events didn't help my situation. We had a water pipe freeze and WATERFALLS were literally rushing out of our ceiling. Thankfully I had only been out of the house for 15 minutes when it happened and quickly learned how to turn off the water (thanks Dad!). My Dad was the lucky person who answered his phone when I was screaming over the rush of Niagara Falls, "Quick! How do I turn off the water to the house!?!?" My poor Dad...and I wonder why he's always worried about us. Eric came home from work and we got to spend the rest of the day with the wet-dry vac. Oh the joys of home ownership!

I'm ready for a happy, uplifting, inspiring and DRY weekend! Happy Friday!

One Last Lecture...

I ran across this video today and I wanted to share it with you.

It's 1o minutes in length, but definitely worth watching it all the way through. For any of you that are having a bad day, are down on your luck or maybe just need a change of perspective...take the few moments to watch this.

Are you leading your life the right way?

Can you guess...??

Can you guess what this is?? Leave a comment if you have an idea! The big reveal will be in the near future so stay tuned!

Photo Girls

About once a month I get together with a fantastic group of girls who not only all share the passion for photography but also own their own photography businesses! We all bounce ideas and questions off of one another and it's just so nice having these girls in my life who can relate with owning a business. Yesterday we all got together to photograph each other's families. We had a ball!

This is Tasha & Tony. Tasha owns Dolce Studios with Kristi!

Here's Eliesa of Photogen Inc. with her husband Judd (p.s. this is Eliesa's signature look!):)

Sally of Lavie Photography recently welcomed her son, Noah, into the world! Here's the happy family!
